The City of Kodiak is recruiting for a Library Director. The position reports to the City Manager and is the head of the Library Department. Under the general administrative direction, responsible for the Kodiak public library facilities and programs and performs professional library services. Provides direct involvement in activities from program development to participation in the delivery of library services. Performs professional library duties such as inter library activities, acquisi¬tion, cataloging, public relations, budget¬ing, program planning, and reference work. Directs activities and oversees performance of six part- and full-time staff. Responsible for the efficient operation of the department and facility in a manner that maximizes cost-effectiveness, productivity, and service to the public. Due to timing of the vacancy, the person hired in this position may also be responsible for the full transition from the existing library facility to the newly constructed library facility in the fall of 2013.
City of Kodiak: Kodiak City is located near the northeastern tip of Kodiak Island in the Gulf of Alaska. Kodiak Island is the largest island in Alaska and second in size to Hawaii in the U.S. The Kodiak National Wildlife Refuge encompasses nearly 1.9 million acres on Kodiak and Afognak Islands. The City of Kodiak is 252 air miles southwest of Anchorage, a one-hour flight and is a three-hour flight from Seattle. The City enjoys regular state ferry service with a twelve-hour run to the Kenai Peninsula.

Minimum Qualifications: Master’s of Library Science from an American Library Association accredited institution; at least five years of public library work including three years at executive management level; minimum three years supervisory experience; Alaska Drivers License or ability to obtain within 30 days of hire. Prefer Alaskan experience in delivery of public library services, training or certifications in hardware and software applications. A combination of education and experience that provides the knowledge, skills, and abilities may be evaluated on an individual basis.
