Basic Function Responsible for efficient operation of circulation services and collection maintenance, training and supervision of part-time paraprofessional staff and work study students, maintenance of the online circulation system, and provision of a range of customer services. The goals of the position are to enhance physical access to the library’s collections and provide a positive experience for library customers. This position reports to the Library Director.
Essential Functions Supervise and coach assigned personnel and maintain operations of the Library’s circulation services. Train, assign and schedule work for hourly employees and work study students. Conduct annual performance evaluations of part-time hourly employees. Establish circulation policies and procedures in consultation with library colleagues and oversee their implementation and enforcement. Ensure that circulation services are provided for students, faculty, staff and community users in a welcoming and professional manner. Provide assistance to customers, provide general information regarding services, resolve problems and respond to customer requests. Maintain the daily operation of circulation module of the Library’s online system including running regular reports, adding and clearing blocks from the college registration database, cashiering and monitoring of cash receipts/funds. Maintain the monograph and periodical print collections, interlibrary loans, the reserve textbook collection (including cataloging), and equipment loaned to students (e.g. laptops, DVD players), ensuring database integrity through regular inventories, tracking lost and missing items, and ensuring proper signage and finding aids to the collections. Order and maintain library supplies, monitor and manage supply budget, and manage library photocopiers and printers. Initiate facilities maintenance and repair requests on an as-needed basis. Function as the primary Safety Officer for the library. Work with colleagues to market the Library’s print, AV and digital collections and services through effective signage and displays. Performs related duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications High school graduation or equivalent. Five (5) years of full time equivalent (FTE) progressively responsible experience working in a library which includes two (2) years beyond entry level in an area of specialization (preferably circulation services). One (1) year of lead or supervisory experience. Proficient expertise with MS Word, Excel, and Outlook.
Preferred Qualifications Bachelors degree from an accredited college or university. Experience working in a library in higher education.
Conditions of Employment Successful completion of a criminal background check. Ability/willingness to stand for long periods of time. Ability to lift and stack books onto high shelves weighing up to 25lbs.

Ability to use automated circulation system and on-line catalog.

Terms of Employment This is a full-time position scheduled to work Monday-Friday 7:30am – 8:00pm during academic year and Monday-Thursday 7:30am – 5:30pm during summer quarter. Flexibility in scheduling is required to meet business needs. Due to Washington State’s budget situation and as a part of the collective bargaining agreement, a temporary 3% salary reduction will be implemented from July 1, 2012 through June 30, 2013. The salary range during this reduction will be $2,705 to $3,522 per month. Tacoma Community College offers a generous benefits package to include: life, health, dental and long-term disability insurance, state retirement, vacation leave, sick leave and holiday pay. A collective bargaining agreement exists and membership in the Washington Federation of State Employees or payment of a service fee is required within 30 calendar days of employment. The layoff unit for this position is “All Other WFSE Classified”.
