Mesa County Libraries seeks a dynamic and innovative director to lead our staff of 75 and our library district to new levels of growth and service.  

Mesa County, located on the Western Slope of Colorado, with a population of approximately 148,000 is comprised of several communities. The incorporated city of Grand Junction, with a current population of more than 58,000, is the largest city in the county and in western Colorado. Quality schools, affordable housing, and a wide range of recreational and cultural opportunities assure Mesa County’s continued growth and make it an attractive location in which to live, work, and play.
 
The ideal candidate must have a demonstrated ability to create effective relationships; to motivate and strategically lead a diverse staff; to collaborate with staff to ensure the delivery of exceptional services; to provide sound fiscal management; to motivate and develop a vision for the use of library technology to improve services; and to be skilled in developing positive working relationships with local government and community organizations.

Candidates should be able to provide demonstrable examples of leadership and administrative skills, collaborative activities, community involvement, and strong Board relations. The ability to communicate effectively and a commitment to excellent internal and external customer service are essential.

MLS or MLIS degree from an ALA-accredited graduate program or advanced degree in a related field preferred
 
Five years of progressively responsible supervisory experience in a public library or five years of experience working in a senior executive capacity for a non-profit or service organization would be considered
 
Demonstrated participation in continuing education

Starting salary range is $82,000 – $92,000 annually with an excellent benefits package.
