Reference/Instruction Resident Librarian

UNIVERSITY OF IDAHO LIBRARY:  Reference/Instruction Resident Librarian: Instructor.  This is a term contract for three years, non-tenure track faculty at instructor rank, academic year appointment (nine-months). Continuance contingent upon funding and meeting or exceeding performance standards.

START DATE:  August 19, 2013

RESPONSIBILITIES:
The University of Idaho Library is now seeking candidates for the position of Resident Librarian in a new Reference and Instruction Residency Program. This three-year faculty position was created to provide the opportunity for recent graduates to gain professional experience as an academic librarian in a supportive and collegial environment. The successful candidate will participate as a library faculty member providing instruction and reference service in support of the academic programs of the University of Idaho. This entry level position entails providing significant library instruction, general reference service (including evening and weekend hours), support of reference and instruction initiatives, and serving as a liaison to student groups as part of a first year experience program.

QUALIFICATIONS:
Required qualifications: Masters degree from an ALA-accredited library program, evidence of a broad knowledge of reference tools and techniques and library instruction methods and technologies; excellent interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills; familiarity with current technologies used in libraries; strong commitment to innovative public service; ability to work effectively, independently, and collaboratively in a collegial environment.

Desired qualifications: Reference and instruction experience in an academic library; effective presentation skills; demonstration of creativity or innovation in library services; enthusiastic commitment to teaching undergraduates; evidence of strong technology skills (including but not limited to experience with creating and maintaining web-based products).
