Primary Purpose: The Distance Services Librarian provides leadership to integrate library services into a growing program of off-site and distance education, aligning these services with the Association of College & Research Libraries Standards for Distance Learning Library Services. Manages the interlibrary loan department and document delivery services. Develops tutorials and other materials to support online learning. Participates as a member of the library faculty in collection development, instruction, reference, and other activities.
Key Responsibilities: A. Provides leadership to integrate library services into a growing program of off-site and distance education, aligning these services with the Association of College & Research Libraries Standards for Distance Learning Library Services. B. Serves as coordinating librarian for online and distance learning, distance centers and remote locations. C. Manages the interlibrary loan department and document delivery services. D. Collaborates with faculty and librarians to provide support to faculty and students engaged in distance learning. E. Develops and implements assessment program to determine effectiveness of library support to distance learning. F. Develops materials in support of online learning. G. Cooperatively maintains library webpages for distance services, interlibrary loan, and distance centers. H. Supervises Interlibrary Loan staff. I. Participates in reference desk duty. Assists faculty, students, staff and other users on a one-on-one basis by answering specific information requests, offering research assistance, and guiding users in the effective use of a broad range of information resources offered in the library. J. Serves as a bibliographer to designated academic departments and oversees the selection of materials in assigned subject areas. Assists in collection development and evaluation; monitors pertinent portions of the acquisitions budget; works to develop and maintain good relations with faculty members. K. Participates in professional activities, including university and library committees and task forces, and attends professional meetings. L. Participates in the library's instruction program. M. Performs other responsibilities and duties as assigned by supervisor and the University Librarian.
Minimum Qualifications: 1. Requires a MLS or equivalent degree from an ALA-accredited program 2. Work experience performing interlibrary loan functions 3. Experience using interlibrary loan technologies, such as OCLC, Ariel, Docline, ILLiad, etc. 4. Experience using distance learning technologies such as Moodle, WebCT, Blackboard etc. 5. Supervision experience 6. Experience using Microsoft Office applications 7. Demonstrated communication and instructional skills
Preferred Qualifications: 1. Teaching experience 2. Knowledge and/or experience with bibliographic databases 3. Experience in collection development 4. Experience in delivering reference services for both local and distance patron populations 5. Work experience in a an academic library
