College Librarian - Department Head
Selkirk College

Selkirk College Library invites applications for the position of College Librarian.  Selkirk College is a progressive, multi-campus community college located in the West Kootenay/Boundary region of Southern BC.  The area offers an excellent environment for family living, with rich opportunities to enjoy year-round recreation and a relaxed lifestyle.
As Department Head, the College Librarian must possess a clear vision of the changing character and role of the community college library in the context of new and emerging technologies.  Under the direction of the Dean of Student Development, and working collaboratively with other Library staff, the College Librarian

  • provides positive leadership
  • manages, plans and reports on Library services
  • administers the budget
  • participates in the recruitment, selection and evaluation of Library staff
  • represents the Library and the College at meetings on library matters
  • liaises with College faculty and departments
  • supports the Library’s local and archival collections (e.g. securing special funding)
  • contributes to regional and provincial library initiatives.

The College Librarian also shares regular librarian duties including: reference service (face to face and virtual); library skills instruction; information literacy education; collection development; promotion and development of library services; and distance education services.

The successful candidate will possess the following: MLS/MLIS from an ALA-accredited institution; experience in all areas of academic library management; excellent interpersonal and communication skills; proven track record as a successful team leader; a strong service commitment; and a demonstrated ability to initiate and implement strategic plans to completion. Knowledge of copyright law in an academic setting would be an asset.

This is a regular, continuing position commencing as soon as possible.  The appointment includes a three (3) year renewable term as Department Head in accordance with the Selkirk College Faculty Association Collective Agreement.  The salary range is $4,140.67 - $6,560.75 per month plus department head stipend.
