The University of Nevada, Reno will open a new library facility in summer 2008. The Mathewson-IGT Knowledge Center
<http://www.knowledgecenter.unr.edu/> will be one of the most technologically advanced libraries in the country. The classical red brick building mirrors the architecture of much of the rest of the campus which was established in Reno in 1885. In nearly 300, 000 square feet, the beautiful new facility offers hi-tech research, presentation, and collaborative spaces, with traditional reading rooms, and comfortable and efficient staff offices, service and lounge areas. Spectacular mountain and city views are available from every angle.
Under the direction of the Vice President for Information Technology/Dean of Libraries, Library and IT professionals will work
together to integrate technology and resources and develop services for over 16,000 University of Nevada, Reno students. Librarians and IT professionals will collaborate to connect with university faculty across campus, to insert library research methods and resources into instructional design and course management systems, to assist students in developing multimedia projects that integrate content and design factors, and to assist students and faculty in applying data analysis and visualization models. The Knowledge Center is home to a large computer lab, art display areas, a 168 seat auditorium, a gourmet coffee
shop, smart classrooms, and media production areas. The building also features an automated book retrieval system that will provide for decades of collection growth.
