SPECIAL INSTRUCTIONS:
This position requires flexibility in schedule and in moving from department to department as needed. The schedule for this position includes every Saturday and some evenings. The schedule is subject to change, based on library needs.
GENERAL PURPOSE: Under general supervision, performs a variety of reference, circulation, programming, and/or outreach activities for Timberland Regional Library; provides customer service and support in relation to branch operations for area of assignment; may be assigned temporary supervision of library operations in the absence of the Supervisor/Manager.

PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
The following duties ARE NOT intended to serve as a comprehensive list of all duties performed by all employees in this classification, only a representative summary of the primary duties and responsibilities. Incumbent(s) may not be required to perform all duties listed and may be required to perform additional, position-specific duties.
• Assists in ensuring the delivery of high quality library programs and services to the community.
• Staffs public services desk and interacts with patrons in-person, by telephone, or electronically.
• Responds to inquiries and provides customer service, assistance, and instruction to library patrons; interprets library rules, policies, and procedures to the public.
• Performs a variety of reference and reader advisory functions for area of assignment.
• Conducts reference interviews to determine reader advisory/reference requirements of patrons; assists patron in accessing desired library resources and materials.
• Plans, coordinates, schedules, and presents preschool, youth, teen, adult, senior, family, and/or other specialized library programming to the local community, and completes program planning and evaluation reports.
• Educates and advises patrons in the use of library computers and equipment; maintains and may troubleshoot and/or coordinate the repair of library equipment.
• Participates in the maintenance of assigned library collections including material processing, title selection, and weeding items from the library collection/database.
• Processes library materials for return or addition to the collection; reviews donations and submits items for cataloging; prepares and shelves materials.
• Assists in evaluating books for mending; may participate in repairing, recovering, and cleaning damaged/soiled library items as assigned.
• Coordinates and conducts a variety of community outreach activities for area of assignment.
• Creates and maintains assigned library book displays, bulletin boards, and display cases; posts notices, updates public bulletin boards, and hangs posters and flyers on library fixtures.
• Assists in maintaining library facilities and/or assigned library sections.
• Supervises library operations in the absence of Supervisor/Manager.
• Performs library opening and closing duties as required.
• May provide assistance in training and/or supervising the activities of assigned library personnel and volunteers.
• May perform various circulation duties including checking books in/out, receiving hold requests, processing library card applications, and answering incoming phone calls as assigned.
• Performs other duties as assigned or required.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Education and Experience:
Bachelor’s Degree in Education, Liberal Arts or a related field and some library experience, including circulation, reference, and/or youth services; OR an equivalent combination of education and experience.
Required Licenses or Certifications:
• Depending on area of assignment, a valid Washington Driver’s License may be required.
Required Knowledge of:
• Public library operations, programs, and services.
• Policies and procedures relative to library operations.
• Reference and circulation processes and procedures.
• Methods for coordinating and delivering library programming.
• Processes for conducting community outreach activities.
• Library computer systems, databases, and software.
• Customer service standards and procedures.
Required Skill in:
• Coordinating and performing a variety of library functions.
• Conducting reference, reader advisory, and circulation duties.
• Providing support in relation to library operations for area of assignment.
• Assisting in ensuring the delivery of quality library services/programs to the community.
• Providing customer service, instruction, and assistance to library patrons.
• Planning and delivering effective youth/adult library programming.
• Establishing and maintaining effective working relationships with other staff, other branch libraries,
community groups, library patrons, and the general public.
Physical Demands / Work Environment:
• Work is performed in a library environment.
• Subject to standing, walking, bending, reaching, and lifting of objects
• Must be able to push/pull library carts and lift/carry library materials.
