Literacy Services Librarian
Edmonton Public Library

Edmonton Public Library is looking for a forward thinking, outgoing librarian to join the Public Services Team as the Literacy Services Librarian.  This highly motivated individual is passionate about literacy for all persons, including children and families.    Under the direction of the Manager, Centre for Reading and the Arts, and working closely with the Manager of Youth Services, the successful candidate will develop, coordinate and deliver imaginative and innovative literacy services and will liaison with a variety of community organizations.  The successful candidate will also provide reference and readers’/listeners’/ viewers’ advisory services to the public and maintain collections in assigned areas.  The Literacy Librarian will work with other Librarians and teams on system projects and will oversee Library Assistants in project activities.  
 
QUALIFICATIONS:
The minimum academic requirement is a M.L.I.S. degree from an ALA accredited library school.  Two years’ related professional experience (including public service), preferably related to literacy related areas, is essential.  We are looking for someone who can provide system-wide leadership in literacy services and who is enthusiastic about working in the community.

•           knowledge of the trends in literacy and literacy issues
•           ability to work with all ages from babies through adults
•           superior interpersonal and communication skills
•           a strong customer service orientation
•           the ability to work effectively in a team environment
•           the ability to utilize electronic information resources
•           awareness of current trends in library service

Pay                             $31.28 – $39.92 per hour ($57,147 - $72,936 per annum)

NOTE:   CANDIDATES THAT DO NOT MEET THE TWO YEAR PROFESSIONAL LIBRARIAN WORK EXPERIENCE QUALIFICATION MAY BE CONSIDERED AT A LOWER PAY BAND.
