SUMMARY: The Marshall Public Library, established by the City of Pocatello, seeks a library director to lead the operations of a professional library. The Marshall Public Library is governed by a five-member board of trustees who are appointed by the mayor and council. The library director serves at the pleasure of the board. The library employs a staff of 25 and has budget of just over 1.5 million dollars.

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES: Responsibilities of the library director include directing all library operations with emphasis on budgeting, strategic planning, and personnel management as well as establishing and maintaining partnerships with community stakeholders.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE: An advanced degree and five years of professional library experience with a minimum of two years management experience.  A Master's degree in Library Science from an ALA accredited school is preferred. Experience in employee relations, budget preparation and presentation, grant administration, public relations, and staff development. An equivalent combination of education and experience will be considered.

COMPETENCIES: Director must possess a thorough knowledge of the principles, methods, and practices of library administration, library reference, circulation, cataloging and classification systems. The Director must also possess demonstrated leadership, public relations, interpersonal communication, analytical, problem-solving, and computer skills. Must have the ability to develop and sustain positive relationships with other City departments and with neighborhood groups, business and community leaders, and civic organizations.
