The Arthur Lakes Library of Colorado School of Mines invites applications for the anticipated faculty position of Reference Librarian. The Library supports the information and educational needs of Mines, primarily in science and engineering, and provides technical information to the regional community. The Library is staffed by 11 faculty librarians and 11 paraprofessionals. More information on the Library can be found at http://www.mines.edu/library .

Located in Golden, Colorado, at the foothills of the Rocky Mountains and just minutes away from downtown Denver, Mines is a public university with an enrollment of over 4,200 students in undergraduate and graduate degree programs in engineering, science and related disciplines.

Responsibilities: The successful candidate will provide reference services including instruction and assistance to library users, staffing the reference desk, collection development, and participating on the reference team. Instruction and outreach to the Mines community are an important part of this position. Some evening and weekend hours are required. The position serves as a liaison to academic departments and on committees for the Library, the university, and other organizations, contributes to the profession, engages in scholarship, and participates in special projects as assigned.

Qualifications: Master’s degree in library science from an ALA accredited school (or equivalent) by date of employment; and either a bachelor’s degree in a science/engineering field or experience in science/engineering librarianship. Applicants should demonstrate excellent communication and teamwork skills, a public service orientation, familiarity with electronic information sources, and professional growth.

Preference will be given to applicants with backgrounds that include:
♦ Academic libraries;
♦ Reference experience;
♦ Instruction and outreach;
♦ Experience in a science or engineering setting; or
♦ Software and hardware trouble-shooting.

Compensation: Minimum $42,000, negotiable commensurate with experience.
