We want to build documentation as a specialty discipline within Vertafore and bring thought leadership to the strategy, focus and form we implement across the company. For this new role on our UX team, we’re looking for an experienced Documentation Manager who can lead the development and delivery of documentation across the wide array of Vertafore products.
The Documentation Manager will work closely with Product Development, Product Management, Professional Services, and other stakeholders to set the overall strategic direction for product documentation including release notes, installation guides, in-product help and API documentation. He or she will determine the overall documentation team structure, prioritize documentation needs, and lead a team that works closely with Engineering and Professional Services to manage the development of high quality product documentation for delivery to both internal and external customers.

Responsibilities:

  • Direct and manage the Documentation function in the organization
  • Provide direction on the identification and prioritization of documentation needs within in the organization
  • Develop documentation plans and timelines for Product Documentation and manage others in the creation of documentation plans
  • Ensure timely delivery of Product Documentation for each software release
  • Work closely with Product Management, Product Development and Professional Services to ensure delivered documentation is appropriate to the needs of our customers
  • Manage and evolve documentation development within the Agile process

Experience:

  • Candidate should possess a BS/BA degree in Technical Communications or related field
  • Significant experience in managing the Tech Pubs/Documentation function within an organization
  • Demonstrated experience working with engineering teams and subject matter experts in the creation of effective product documentation
  • Experience with all forms of User Assistance including printed product documentation, on-line help, in-product UI text, knowledge base articles, etc.
  • Relevant hands-on experience producing documentation for complex line-of-business software products
  • Strong aptitude for learning new technologies and product domains and determining end-user information and documentation needs.
  • Ability to distill complex technical information into actionable knowledge that trainees/readers can use and understand.
  • Previous experience planning departmental/functional budgets, including forecasting and organizational planning.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Creative approach to problem solving.
