Public Services Librarian

The University of Alberta Libraries, with a long tradition of service excellence to the University and its communities, seek a dynamic individual for the position of Public Services Librarian at the Winspear Business Reference Library. As a Public Services Librarian, you will be involved in liaison work, collection development, bibliographic instruction, online and face-to-face reference, including consultations by appointment as well as the development of online user discovery and current awareness tools.  In addition, you will be involved in identifying Canadian business grey literature for digital preservation. You will actively promote customer service skills among Winspear Business Reference Library staff, act as a resource for staff, and play an important role in ensuring that the Winspear Library meets its goals. Working as part of a team, you will work collaboratively within a network of humanities and social sciences and science libraries, notably in the areas of bibliographic instruction and reference.

The University of Alberta Library is Canada’s second largest research library, with a collection exceeding five million volumes. The Library has a unique relationship with the broader community through NEOS, a central Alberta consortium consisting of 19 government, hospital, college and university libraries and through The Alberta Library (TAL). The Winspear Business Reference Library is part of the larger University of Alberta Libraries system. Its mission is to serve the staff and students of the School of Business and to provide campus wide business reference service.  The School of Business includes approximately 100 faculty, 2100 undergraduates, as well as 370 students in the MBA, Executive MBA and doctoral programmes.  The Winspear Library supports one of the largest collections of business databases in the country.  The staff of the Winspear Library produce specialized online business information discovery tools utilizing blog, Camtasia, podcast, FAQ and CMS software.  In addition the Winspear librarians select and manage the business print and DVD collection which is housed in the Rutherford Social Sciences and Humanities Library.

Qualifications will include an MLIS degree from an accredited library school and some related professional experience. Applicants must possess a strong service orientation, superior teamwork skills, excellent instructional and communicational skills, as well as familiarity with the main research tools used in university libraries (databases, e-journals, etc.).

This tenure-track position is classified at the Librarian 1 level with a current salary range of $48, 872 to $93,660.
