THE LIBRARIES:
Among the largest academic research libraries in North America, the University of Washington Libraries has a collection of more than seven million cataloged volumes, an equal number in microform format, more than 50,000 serial titles, and several million items in other formats. Students and faculty recognize the value provided by the Libraries and rank the Libraries as the most important source of information for their work. The Libraries also receives the highest satisfaction rating of any academic service on the surveys of graduating seniors conducted by the Office of Educational Assessment.

THE UNIT:
Collection Management Services (CMS) provides leadership and support for the development and management of the Libraries' information resources. The unit coordinates the development of Libraries-wide selection policies and strategies, and interprets and helps to implement them in daily operations.  CMS fosters cooperative collection development within the UW Libraries and beyond it, and manages the Libraries' consortial purchasing relationships.

THE POSITION:
Under the general direction of the Director, Information Resources and Scholarly Communication, works in a team environment within CMS to provide support for collection and electronic resource management activities. Key position responsibilities will include stewardship of the Libraries' electronic resource usage data, gathering and presentation of other quantitative information, management of license information, and support and assistance in managing information resources in various formats.

SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES:
* Coordinates and manages intake and reporting of electronic resource usage data from multiple sources, and is responsible for integrity and organization of usage data archive and supporting documentation.
* Works with other CMS staff to obtain, analyze, and present quantitative information to support budget allocation and selection work, and for general informational purposes; assists in collection of data to respond to surveys, such as those from ARL and other professional organizations; utilizes the Innovative Interfaces ILS to provide collection management information for subject liaisons/selectors and others, and assists in developing related training and support
materials.
* Assists in the management of licensing and license files.  Assists in reviewing proposed vendor/publisher license terms, identifying problem areas for follow-up and negotiation; mark-up and input license details into Innovative Interfaces E-Resource Module; manages digitizing of license documents and digitized files in D-space repository; contributes to policies and procedures for management of licenses and license information.
* Provides general support for electronic resources, including administrative configurations and profiling, troubleshooting access and data problems, and supporting pre-purchase review, such as organizing trials and gathering pricing and product information.
* Supervises student assistant(s).  Manages recruitment, hiring, and ongoing procedures such as time-keeping and budgets.  In consultation with other librarians in CMS, assigns responsibilities, provides training and oversees activity.
* Responds to user purchase requests received through the Libraries' gateway, initiating order requests and/or contacting subject liaisons/selectors according to unit guidelines.
* In consultation with other CMS staff, manages and contributes to the ongoing development of the CMS web pages and the related "Selectors' Portal."  Assists the Collection Development Librarian in creating and maintaining subject web pages for Comparative Religion, General International Studies, and Latin American Studies.
* Contributes to Innovative Interfaces staff training as needed for Millennium Acquisitions overview, Millennium Create Lists, and Millennium Electronic Resource Management.
* According to interests and background, may perform activities in one or more of the following areas: research and instructional services; subject liaison/selector for one or more subject areas; monographic or serials acquisitions support.
* Assumes other responsibilities as assigned; performs other duties as required.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Required:
* Graduate degree from a program accredited by the American Library Association or an equivalent graduate library science/information studies degree.
* Demonstrated commitment to diversity and understanding of the contributions a diverse workforce brings to the workplace.
* Minimum of one year successful post-MLS professional experience supporting electronic resources in an academic or research library.
* Experience with an integrated library system.
* Proficiency in using a variety of software, including spreadsheets and databases (MS-Excel and MS-Access).
* Excellent communication, interpersonal, organizational and analytical skills; ability to present information clearly and succinctly to a variety of audiences.
* Ability to function well in a changing environment, work effectively within a large organization, and exercise initiative in a collaborative framework.

Preferred:
* Experience with Innovative Interfaces integrated library system.
* Demonstrated strong quantitative skills and interests.
* Experience analyzing usage data of digital resources.
* Direct experience working with publishers/providers of electronic resources.
* Knowledge of licensing, rights management, or other intellectual property issues.

SALARY:  $42,000 minimum.  Starting salary commensurate with qualifications and background.

BENEFITS:  Librarians are academic personnel and participate in the University of Washington Retirement Plan (TIAA-CREF, The Vanguard Group, and/or Fidelity Investments) on a matching basis.  Vacation is accrued at the rate of 24 working days per year; sick leave at the rate of 12 working days per year.  No state or local income tax.
