Salary: $75,358.40 - $113,048.00 annually

The City of Pasadena is seeking a dynamic and experienced leader with exceptional management skills to shape the future of its library system.  This is an exciting and unique opportunity for a creative and motivated professional to lead the growth and enhancement of the library’s programs and services.  The successful candidate will have the skills to ensure services are in alignment with the city’s mission, values and strategic goals, as well as the ability to provide a vision for service delivery both today and into the future. 

The Library is the municipal library of the City of Pasadena, Texas and serves a socio-economically diverse community of 145,000 residents.  The Library System consists of two locations: a 44,300 square foot Central Library and a 10,300 square foot Branch Library.  The Central Library was renovated and expanded in 2009 and includes a state-of-the art Business Center, rainforest-themed Children’s Library, a Genealogy & Local History room and Teen Central. The Fairmont Branch Library is currently transitioning into an express location by adding additional technology and focusing on popular materials. 

This position requires a candidate with a passionate belief in the power and importance of the public library and a compelling vision for responsive library services.  The successful candidate will bring experience, skill and commitment in the areas of customer service, diversity, outreach and partnerships, and have a demonstrated ability to effectively manage organizational change. The successful candidate will also have a strong philosophy of customer service, the ability to attract and mentor talented staff and embrace the values of trust, staff participation and team management.  Experience with facilities projects and continuous staff development is also desirable.

The ideal candidate for this position has a hands-on management style and knows how to motivate, develop, energize and empower library staff.  This candidate will practice collaborative leadership and will seek ways to effectively interact and communicate with library staff and stakeholders.   Other attributes sought include an ability to be involved with the community on a variety of levels and a demonstrated goal of reaching out to underserved populations.  In addition, this person makes smart decisions, remains calm under pressure and is an innovative, strategic thinker. 

The Library Director is responsible for a $3.17 million municipal budget and a staff of approximately thirty-five (35) employees.  Primary responsibilities of this position include directing the overall operation of the City of Pasadena Public Library System.  In addition, coordinates departmental activities, analyzes business practices, resolves service issues, leads policy development, oversees and prepares library budget, supervises and leads staff and develops community relations.

Qualifications: Requires a Master of Library Science from an A.L.A. accredited Master’s program with at least five (5) to seven (7) years of progressively responsible professional library experience and a minimum of three (3) years of demonstrated management ability in administration, budgeting, planning and supervision.
