Digital Initiatives Librarian
Thompson Rivers University

Advises and works collaboratively with the University Library Director and librarians on developments and applications of new information technologies, emerging trends, best practices related to scholarly communication; storage and digital preservation issues. Participates and contributes to the Library's team organization; works and liaises with Information Technology Services (ITS), Instructional Design Research Group, (IDRG), faculty, and other departments on digital and Web 2.0 projects, such as online learning and instructional materials.

Creates marketing strategies appropriate to libraries and to expanding participation in repository services and coordinates metadata activities, ensuring that appropriate digital and metadata standards and procedures are established and followed.
Provides leadership in technical planning, technical implementation, management and support of digital repository applications and projects. Develops, implements, maintains, and evaluates procedures and documentation related to digital initiatives, including compiling statistics and preparing reports.

Provides face-to-face and/or virtual reference and research assistance as well as teaches library instruction classes and provides training and workshops to faculty and staff on digital projects. Participates in collection development and also participates in ongoing professional development activities.
May involve evening work.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • MLS/MLIS from and ALA-accredited program
  • Two years academic library experience preferred
  • Experience planning and implementing digitization projects
  • Demonstrated experience with metadata standards and schema including DublinCore
  • Strong analytical and problem solving skills
  • Demonstrated excellence in project management skills
  • Experience with learning/digital management systems and instructional design methods would be an asset
  • Experience in liaison roles
  • Ability to work independently and meet deadlines
  • Excellent interpersonal and teamwork skills complemented by the ability to take initiative
  • Required: PHP, MySQL, CSS, XHTML, HTML, XML; Preferred: PERL, Javascript
  • Experience with Linux/Unix would be an asset
