Part-Time, Adjunct Faculty Position

THE COLLEGE
Whatcom Community College is a destination college attracting students from its local community of Bellingham,

enrollment averages 6,562 students (3,418 FTE) per quarter in both credit and non-credit courses. WCC boasts
a talented group of 75 full-time faculty who partner with approximately 165 adjunct (part-time) faculty members to
deliver instruction that promotes student success. Supported by Whatcom’s exemplary staff, our campus

POSITION DESCRIPTION
Whatcom Community College invites applications for an adjunct librarian with technical expertise to support
information literacy and other library instructional programs. This part-time (22-28 hours week) position requires
a flexible schedule, including evening and Saturday hours.

RESPONSIBILITIES
• Serve as a member of the library faculty by participating in instruction and reference.
• Participate in collection development.
• Work collaboratively in designing and developing instruction and materials to facilitate teaching and
learning for both face-to-face instruction and web-based instruction.
• Provide support for e-learning faculty and students.
• Serve as liaison to specified disciplines.
• Serve as the librarian-in-charge during evening hours and Saturdays.
• Commit to stay current in the profession of library science.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
• ALA accredited MLS, MLIS required.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
• Familiarity with the concepts, goals, and methods of information literacy instruction.
• Teaching experience in a post-secondary institution.
• Successful experience in the use of traditional and electronic sources in an academic library.
• Working knowledge of digital library technologies, trends and issues.
• Demonstrated initiative and flexibility and a commitment to innovation.

• Demonstrated skill using reference sources.
• Ability to work with students.
• Ability to work effectively in a collaborative team environment.

SALARY
Based on the current part-time salary schedule.

STARTING DATE
Spring Quarter – April 5, 2010.
