Librarian Substitute

Full Salary Range $25.48 - $35.02/hour             
North District Libraries, WA

North District: This position may substitute up to 19 hours per week and no more than 69 hours per month to cover regular staff absences at the Marysville, Monroe and Snohomish libraries and may require mornings, afternoons, evenings, and weekends. Willingness to work widely varying hours (sometimes on short notice) is essential. To ensure maximum flexibility, an individual in this position may not hold another Sno-Isle position concurrently.              

  1. Provide and assist customers with general reader’s advisory, reference services, and usage of library facilities and services
  2. Explain and demonstrate procedures and methods for bibliographic and reference searches
  3. Maintain and develop reference materials and sources
  4. Provide and assist homebound customer with general reader’s advisory and selecting materials for customers based on understanding their interests
  5. Provide on-site assistance to customers and their activities director in assisted care facilities in locating reference materials and in advising them on appropriate materials
  6. Prepare materials for delivery
  7. Plan and present preschool storytimes to licensed childcare centers, Head Start programs, and ECEAP programs in the Sno-Isle Libraries service area
  8. Drive delivery vehicles to various outreach sites such as elder citizens’ centers and child care facilities according to schedule

Requires competent knowledge of library materials; Library District policies and procedures; integrated library computer system; materials selection process; reader’s advisory; bibliographic search techniques, and reference tools.

Requires the ability to use a bar code reader, computer equipment, Internet and standard office equipment; speak, understand and write English clearly and concisely; conduct reference interviews; work cooperatively and maintain favorable relations with the public and co-workers.

Requires the ability to operate delivery vans and the bookmobile: occasionally lift and/or move objects or materials weighing up to 35 pounds; have vision abilities sufficient to pass the Washington state driver license requirements; and have hearing acuity sufficient for safe vehicle operation, to hear customers in conditions with background noise, or customers unable to produce normally audible speech.

Requires a Master’s degree in Library Information Science from an ALA-accredited college or university, plus two years experience as a professional level librarian preferred and have or be able to obtain a Washington State Librarian certificate.
