Reference Librarian

The Art Institute of Seattle is seeking qualified candidates for the position of Reference Librarian for its Seattle Campus.  Candidates must hold a Master’s Degree in Library Science from an ALA accredited institution.
Position Summary:
Performs reference and bibliographic instruction utilizing traditional print and online resources. Oversees acquisition processes to contribute to the development of the Library collection. Acts as administrator of the integrated library system’s circulation module. Regularly communicates with students, faculty and staff to facilitate best practices, outstanding service, and overall efficacy of Library services. Reports to the Director of the Library.
Performance Responsibilities:

  1. Assists faculty, students, and staff in the development of research skills.
  2. Provides reference services to all faculty, students, and staff.
  3. Promotes/develops information literacy programs and conducts bibliographic instruction using online resources and the OPAC for faculty, students, and staff.
  4. Serves as the coordinator for collection development acquisitions.
  5. Administers circulation processes of the integrated library system.
  6. Oversees student workers in the shelving, processing, and inventory of Library materials.
  7. Assists in the preparation of the Library budget and in strategic planning for the Library.
  8. Assists in coverage of circulation desk.
  9. Contributes to Library presence online through website, chat, and other technologies.
  10. Collaborates with other Librarians to systematically plan and realize Library initiatives.
  11. Other duties as assigned by the Library Director.

Position Requirements:

  1. Master's degree in Library Science from an ALA accredited institution.
  2. Familiarity with collection management procedures, including collection development and acquisitions.
  3. Knowledge of and familiarity with integrated library systems, LCSH and LCC, subscription databases, web-authoring software, and the online environment.
  4. Very well organized, high attention to detail, technologically savvy, and ability to work with diverse populations.
  5. Creative problem solving skills, team-oriented perspective, and service focused attitude.

Preferred:
Experience/knowledge in reference services, information literacy, bibliographic instruction, and student employee supervision. Experience with Voyager integrated library system software.  Awareness of emerging technologies and methodologies in Library services, particularly in academic environments. Background or interest in the commercial arts and/or fine arts.
Appointment: Full-time position, salary depends on experience. Hours are Monday-Friday 7:15am – 4:00pm.
