NOTICE OF VACANCY

TITLE:  Engineering Information Services/Instruction Librarian

GENERAL DESCRIPTION:

Serves as Engineering Information Services/Instruction Librarian, under
the general direction of Head, Engineering Library; coordinating the
unit's information and reference service activities; supporting the unit's
user education program, including instruction, orientations, information
management programs; working closely with the College of Engineering, the
University Libraries, and the broader educational community in developing
instruction, and other programs; supporting the development of web-based
documentation and tutorials; selecting print and electronic materials;
participating in service programs; and supervising student reference
assistants.

SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES:

1.  Coordinates the information and reference service activities in
the Engineering Library.  Schedules the reference desk.

2.  Supports the unit's user education program, including instruction,
orientations and information management programs.

3.  Coordinates reference collection management and development.

4.  Provides reference service, including computer-based reference
service, consultation, and user education in the Engineering Library.

5.  Hires, trains, and supervises student reference assistants. Trains
and orients other library staff for reference service activities.

6.  Supports the development of instructional and other user
documentation, including web-based documentation and tutorials.

7.  May serve as selector and departmental liaison.

8.  Participates in library committees, teams, task forces and groups as
appropriate.

9.  Assumes other responsibilities as assigned; performs other duties as
required.

QUALIFICATIONS :

1.  Graduate degree from a program accredited by the American Library
Association required.

2.  Minimum of one year post-MLS experience in engineering or science
library required.

3.  Excellent working knowledge of HTML and demonstrated ability to
develop web-based documentation and resource directories required.

4.  Supervisory experience preferred.

5.  Strong computing skills essential; an aptitude for teaching required.

6.  Experience in collection development desirable.

7.  Excellent written and verbal communication skills, and strong
interpersonal skills required.

8.  Strong interest in providing user-centered, quality service and
ability to work effectively with students, faculty, staff and other
library users required.

SALARY:     $30,000/year minimum. Starting salary dependent on background
and experience,

BENEFITS:    Librarians are academic personnel and participate in a
TIAA-CREF retirement program on a matching basis. Vacation is accrued at
the rate of 24 working days per year; sick leave at the rate of 12 working
days per year. Excellent medical, dental and life insurance plans. No
state of local income tax.
