POSITION ANNOUNCEMENT

The Pend Oreille County Library District is seeking a visionary,
energetic leader for the position of  Library Director.   Located
in extreme Northeastern Washington, Pend Oreille County is a
beautiful rural area with vast forests, varied wildlife, and
friendly people.  The Library District boasts four libraries, each
fully automated with Bibliofile, and offering a variety of CD ROM
applications and free Internet access to the public.   Chosen as
one of the nine original sites for the Microsoft Libraries Online!
project, POCLD strives to stay on the cutting edge of library
technology. 
The Director answers to a five member board, selected by area in
the county.     As the only professional in the District, the
Director supervises 14 full and part time paraprofessional
employees, plus four work-study students. 
RESPONSIBLE FOR:  Overall supervision of library services,
strategic planning, budget preparation and management, grant
writing and administration, hiring, training, evaluating, and
correcting personnel, and representing the library to the people
and governing boards of five towns and a large rural area.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:  MLS from ALA-accredited program, strong
communications skills, both oral and written; accurate listening
skills, extensive working knowledge of library and office
automation, a commitment to an all-staff teamwork approach to
management, and a demonstrated commitment to developing community
partnerships.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:  Five years of public library
experience, with 3 years progressively responsible library
administrative experience.  Extensive knowledge and experience in
direct public service, collection development, personnel
management, grant-writing, planning, and financial management. 
Some experience with building or remodeling public buildings;
knowledge of ADA requirements.  Familiarity with Automated systems
and information technology.
STARTING SALARY RANGE:  $27,753 to $35,630, DOQ, plus excellent
benefits package.
