Washington State Library PRINCIPAL LIBRARY INFORMATION SPECIALIST (Pre-recruitment announcement) Washington State Library is seeking an energetic, innovative, team-oriented librarian with a vision for library service, skill in problem-solving, concern for customers, and the ability to take initiative. Leadership, open-mindedness, flexibility in a changing environment, and the ability to work in a non-hierarchical system are highly desired characteristics for the position. The individual should have: * Ability to consult with library staff, library boards, governmental officials and diverse groups on library issues and governance. Ability to communicate, facilitate, listen, and analyze situations for diverse groups of customers, including Washington State Library's branch libraries. * Ability to apply current technology in library settings, both rural and urban, small and medium-size libraries and to use technology in statistical data collection. * Ability to analyze statistics as they apply to libraries, both public and academic libraries. The person serves as a consultant on library issues and governance and works as liaison to branches of the State Library. The consultant is also responsible for state data collection and application of technology in library situations. The position is one of four professional librarians on a six-member team - Gateways - which serves as the initial point of contact for customers using the Washington State Library. The Gateways team provides services to libraries and serves as an advocate and liaison for the State Library's branches in institutions. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS Master's degree in library science from an ALA-accredited program and certification by the Washington State Library Commission; or certification by the Washington State Library Commission by examination and Five years of experience as a professional librarian, two years of which is in the technical speciality of library governance, library finance, library law and regulation; and one year of which is in the technical speciality of library practices, library service and interlibrary cooperation. Consulting experience is highly desired. COMPENSATION/BENEFITS Salary: $2,980 - $3, 815 per month, depending on qualifications.
