ABOUT THE DISTRICT

The Bellevue School District serves a multi-ethnic and multi-racial
population of about 15,000 students. We have 16 elementary schools, five
middle schools, four high schools and three alternative schools.

DUTIES Plan, implement, and evaluate library media/technology
instructional program and services in cooperation with faculty.

Supervise students in the library throughout the working day. Evaluate and
update library materials utilizing staff input as appropriate.

Perform other duties as required to manage the administrative and
operational functions of the library facility and to provide an
instructional program appropriate to the grade level and needs of the
school.

Actively promote reading and literature appreciation through storytelling
and book-talks; assisting students in selecting books; and with regular
scheduled classes.

Performs limited responsibilities of a school library media specialist.

PROFESSIONAL QUALIFICATIONS

Possess or qualify for immediate issuance of a valid Washington State
Teaching certificate.

Thirty graduate Semester hours in Library/Information Science or MLS is
preferred. Fewer hours may be considered because responsibilities are
limited.

Demonstrated competencies in the following areas:

*  ability to plan, execute, and evaluate library media instructional
programs; reading and listening guidance; storytelling and story writing
and activities to stimulate life-long learning skills;

*  materials and information services appropriate for grade level
including reference and bibliography; with emphasis on literature;

* techniques for guiding users in reading, listening, and viewing;

* selection and evaluation of print and non-print materials. 

Knowledge of the content of reference, information, and literary sources
appropriate for grade level.

Ability and willingness to work with staff and students in providing an
effective library information program integrated with curriculum content.

Ability to work with whole language; students with special needs; and
technology based instruction.

Understanding of intellectual and emotional needs of students and ability
to communicate effectively with the age group of the school. 

Recent training, experience and a strong library-media/information
technology background preferred.

Ability to work with adults to facilitate change.

CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT

Teachers work a 182-day contract with placement on the District and BEA
bargaining agreement salary schedule. Beginning teacher salary is
$22,282.00; however, actual placement on the schedule is determined by
training and experience. Benefits include retirement, medical, dental and
other benefits, according to Board policy and contract specifications,
