[Thread Prev][Thread Next] Goals 2000
I have been involved in Educational grants for reading and was therefore
interested in a book I recently discovered.
Libraries interested in Literacy and the Federal Government's Goals 2000
program, might be interested in the book, "America 2000/Goals 2000;
Moving the nation educationally to a 'New World Order'." Compiled by
James R. Patrick. Moline, IL: Citizens for Academic Excellence, 1994
(POB 1164, Moline, 61265).
Much like Bible commentaries which try to tell us what is really going
on, this is a conservitive commentary on Goals 2000. While the book was
published a few years ago, some of what the authors have spoken about
has taken place to the consternation of teachers and other educators.
The book includes extensive commentaries and charts regarding the
Council on Foreign Relations (CFR), the Trilateral Commission and the
organization know as the Bilderbergers -- a hot topic in prison
libraries -- and for some libraries, this work could be a resource for
that information.
The complete text of Goals 2000 appears with commentaries and sections
on educational "initiatives" in several states, including those of the
Charter schools in Michigan, Utah and others. This makes this an
interested reference work--a one place source, even if you don't agree
with the commentaries.
Relative to Freedom of Information, and librarians working in this area,
this book presents some interesting issues. Librarians should be aware
of these.
Please forward this review to any appropriate colleague, OK?--maybe
Amazon.com or Bookwire?
