LIBRARIAN - REFERENCE - FULL TIME Closing Date: April 30, I997

Spokane Falls Community College Library is seeking an energetic,
service-oriented individual lo join our proactive reference staff in
providing services in a dynamic, always changing community college
library. Applicant must be familiar with and able to effectively utilize
various automated library systems including DRA, UMI Proquest FirstSearch
and the Internet. The applicant uill need the ability to maintain an
active interest and understanding in regard to current trends in the
library profession, particularly as these trends relate to community
college education.

Some occasional teaching of bibliographic information will be required. In
order to ensure that the library meets the needs of the campus community,
the applicant must maintain a positive working relationship with diverse
academic employees and student body. Applicants must demonstrate the
ability to work independently at a team member, collaborating with library
academic employees and classified staff to promote the mission of the
library.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: This is a tenure-track full-time position
20-24 hours per week at the reference desk including same rotation for
evenings and Sundays. Applicant will be an academic employee liaison with
a variety of campus departments participating in various campus committees
and professional organizations.  Be responsible for collection development
in specific subject areas becoming a member of the Library Management
Team. Assist in furthering the library's program of increased emphasis on
electronic curricular support and integration of information literacy into
tile curriculum. Participate in the development of electronic guides to
the library's collection of print and computerized resources using the
World wide Web and other on-line aids as well as continued development of
the library's Website

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Master's Degree in Library and Information Science
from an ALA Accredited University.

DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS: Ability to work independently and as a team member
demonstrating well developed oral and written communication skills.
Demonstrated commitment to student-centered reference service.  Experience
using search protocols for a variety of electronic information resources
including on-line database, the Internet and automated catalog systems.
Ability to utilize the computer effectively for programs such as word
processing, learning new software quickly. Experience using Windows. Word
and the Internet. Willingness to explore emerging technologies working
quickly in stressful situations to meet client demands and deadlines.
Experience or training in planing and implementing technology in support
of reference and instructional services. Ability to work with people of
diverse ethnic, education and socioeconomic backgrounds.

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT: This is a full-time, tenure-track position with
initial Salary placement between $31,066 and $36,963 for a 175 day
contract. Academic employees are represented by the Association of Higher
Education (AHE) which is affiliated with NEA and WEA. AHE membership or
payment of representation fee is required. Position is dependent upon
State of Washington funding. Anticipated date of employment is September
15, 1997.

SCREENING PROCESS: Applicants will be screened by a committee with final
recommendation of appointment made by the president of Spokane Falls
community College.

CONDITIONS FOR EMPLOYMENT: Person hired must be able to provide acceptable
documentation of U.S. Citizenship or lawful authorization to work in the
U.S. This is an absolute condition of employment. In addition, CCS
maintains a drug free work and learning environment and prohibits all
smoking in college buildings and vehicles. CCS employees must be able to
successfully work in and promote a multicultural and diverse work and
educational environment.
