Library Automated Systems Administrator
This position is accountable for planning and implementing automated
information and management systems for the Library, for ensuring that
existing systems operate effectively and efficiently, and for assuring
that automated access to the Library's systems is available to users
at their desks, via the network. To meet these accountabilities, the
position also serves as the liaison with (1) the Laboratory's
Information Sciences group and with Hanford Site contractors regarding
automated applications and services; (2) the Department of Energy's
(DOE) Richland Operations Office and the DOE HQ's Office of Scientific
and Technical Information concerning automated library and information
services; and (3) Washington State University Tri-Cities (WSU-TC)
information systems and telecommunications staff and WSU's main
Pullman campus' Assistant Director for Library Automation. This
position is also accountable for coordinating automation activities
with other library network systems, special and technical libraries,
and commercial library software vendors; for providing specialized and
senior-level assistance to the Library's Information Specialists
concerning online and stand-alone electronic library resources and
services.
This position reports to the Manager, Technical Library Department,
within the Communications Directorate, Pacific Northwest National
Laboratory, operated for the DOE by Battelle. The Technical Library
Department is accountable for operating the Hanford Technical
Library's main library, the Life Sciences branch, the Legal Library,
and the DOE Public Reading Room.
Minimum qualifications: Masters in Library Science strongly preferred.
Bachelors in Information Systems or comparable and relevant library
experience will also be considered. Proven leadership experience in
designing and implementing electronic information systems, including
diverse CD applications in a networked environment. High degree of
experience with MS-DOS; Windows; and NT in a client/server
configuration. Strong programming experience with databases (e.g.,
FoxPro, Access, Visual Basic). Experience as a key contributor in a
library; experience in a science and technology special library
preferred. Strong oral and written communications skills.
Minimum salary: $43,900
