[Thread Prev][Thread Next] Caught In The Web: 51 million death records!
The operators of this site have had numerous problems getting this
mammoth database to work properly, but it seems to have stabilized
lately to the point where I think it is safe to recommend and bookmark.
The Social Security Death Index contains death records of 51 million
individuals who have died since 1937. Not everyone who has died is
in here, only people for whom a Social Security death benefit was
claimed by someone. Go to:
www.ancestry.com/ssdi
Each record provides SSN, state where issued, birthdate, date of death,
zip code and place of last residence. With this information in hand,
you can order a copy of the original application for Social Security,
which gives a great deal more information. For instructions on how
to do this, click on the link below the search field that reads
"Find out more about the SSDI infobase..."
