[Thread Prev][Thread Next] Workshop Announcement
The Systematic Information Retrieval/Organization Model (SIRO) A Workshop sponsored by the Valley Link Continuing Education Committee Wednesday, June 11, 1997 1:00 - 3:50 pm Oregon State University Kidder Hall - Rm 33 Corvallis, OR The SIRO (Systematic Information Retrieval/Organization) Model is a research process designed to compensate for limitations existing in WWW search engines. At present, this model targets searchers in agriculture but has been modified to the discipline of education since then. It is anticipated that the SIRO model will diverse into other disciplines as well. The SIRO model emphasizes the importance of understanding the information structure and the information flow of a specific subject discipline on WWW. This step enables searchers to understand who publishes what and where information will be distributed. Then searchers can apply this knowledge to a real query suited to the specific subject discipline. Information retrieved will be organized in a thinking map which enables searchers to view information on a single two dimensional diagram. This visual presentation helps searchers organize retrieved results and select relevant information. The workshop will be demonstration only. Emphasis of this workshop will be on how information is organized on the web by a particular organization, government agency or corporate agency. For those who are interested, a tour of The Valley Library will follow at 4:00 pm.
