Automation Specialist (Job#383) $38,400+ DOE 40 Hours week Anchorage Municipal Libraries is seeking an Automation Specialist. Interested applicants must have an Masters in Library Science from an American Library Association accredited school plus at least three years of professional library experience, two of which included responsibilities leading to the ability to perform the duties of the position. Desired experience includes demonstrated system level competence with DRA or other library software and Open VMS; a working knowledge of WWW authoring tools, Web Server maintenance and statistical packages; a familiarity with current networking protocols Z39.50, TCP/IP and ethernet; and a background in MARC records and database management. This positions requires the flexibility and service-orientation to thrive in a rapidly changing organizational and technological environment. Excellent oral and written communication skills are necessary to interact with non-technical users and to work in a team-oriented environment. The incumbent will also need to be a self-starter with excellent organizational, analytic and problem resolution skills and must have the capacity to handle several projects simultaneously. The person selected will manage the day-to-day operation of the librarys online catalog system (DRA). Duties include responsibility for the installation and testing of DRA software upgrades; working with the library staff, MIS staff, and the DRA Help Desk to identify, analyze and implement appropriate solutions and enhancements; design, implement and document automation procedures for both periodically occurring tasks (i.e., off-line circulation, inventory, monthly reports, yearly policy and calendar rollover) as well as day-to-day tasks (i.e. daily reports, and system management tasks); assumes responsibility for developing and producing statistical and analytical reports; under the direction of the unit Manager develops and implements additional library automation services including full-text access, WWW and Z39.50 server development; works the reference desk; participates in Automation Support team short and long-term planning; and performs other duties as assigned.
