The University of Arizona, School of Information Resources and Library

After a one week introduction, the course will be split into two major
areas:
Weeks 2-8 will instill a thorough knowledge of the mechanics of the
Internet via an intensive, hands-on exploration of a wide variety of
Internet applications and services. Discussion of the Internet as a
medium for communication will also occur in this section. The intent
here is to help students gain enough familiarity with the tools to begin
their own explorations.
Weeks 9-15 will focus on some of the major social issues, and impacts on
institutions. The intent here is to give students good background
knowledge of the Internet as a social phenomenon, and prepare them for
intelligent discourse of networked systems in a social context.
