NW LINK Reference Referral Center Librarian
The Valley Library/Information Services
Oregon State University, Corvallis, Oregon
APPOINTMENT
Full-time, 12-month, fixed-term appointment at the rank of
Instructor.
QUALIFICATIONS
MLS from an ALA-accredited library program; minimum of one year
professional experience, preferably in a public library setting, or
a demonstrated ability to provide quick and accurate reference
service; excellent interpersonal and oral/written communication
skills; a demonstrated ability to collect and disseminate
statistical information and prepare budget reports and a valid
driver's license are required. Preferred: Previous experience
working in a team-based environment.
RESPONSIBILITIES
Oregon State University has been designated one of five Regional
Reference Referral Centers established to answer requests for
information that cannot be answered by a local library. The NW
LINK Librarian at OSU will work as a member of the Reference and
Research Consulting Team with primary responsibility for providing
in-depth back-up reference services to public, academic and school
libraries in Columbia, Clatsop, Polk, Marion, Benton and Linn
Counties, as well as to the other four Reference Referral Centers
when the subject is within OSU Libraries' area of expertise (e.g.
agriculture or forestry).
In order to fulfill this goal, the NW LINK Librarian's major duties
will include utilizing the collections of the OSU Libraries and the
Corvallis-Benton County Public Library and the expertise of the OSU
subject librarians to provide rapid and accurate customer service;
advertising and promoting the Reference Referral Center and
maintaining regular communication with the local libraries and
other Centers in person, print or electronic formats as
appropriate; serving as a resource to local library staff on
appropriate reference strategies and sources as well as providing
training as appropriate; keeping accurate statistics and providing
the appropriate state and federal agencies with the necessary
reports, including the annual budget request; and monitoring the
FirstSearch account and other Center expenditures.
Other duties will include training OSU librarians and
paraprofessionals in Center procedures; supervising a part-time NW
LINK Assistant; actively participating as a member of the Reference
and Research Consulting Team and consulting with the new NW LINK
Advisory Board and the State Library as needed. It is anticipated
that aspects of this position will involve occasional in-state
travel and/or conference attendance.
SALARY
Commensurate with experience/education as it relates to this
position; minimum $28,008 for 12 month faculty appointment at 1.00
FTE.
