Library Director Position Announcement
Stevens County Rural Library District

A brand new rural library system in eastern Washington state seeks 
dynamic but easy-going library Director to initiate and deliver 
state-of-the-art library services. This position is a special 
opportunity for an experienced library manager and service provider who 
cares deeply about rural community life and being of service. 
The Director will be expected to carry out the vision, mission and 
values of the new library system as it has been developed with public 
input from meetings in 15 rural communities. Skilled and very 
user-friendly staff and volunteers are a priority. Services will be 
primarily focused on life-long learning and access to reference sources, 
as well as traditional library materials. An ambitious technology plan 
will assist the District in providing access to clients scattered 
throughout the rural areas. Cooperation with local organizations, 
municipalities, regional libraries, tribal councils, school districts, 
and area colleges will be necessary to ensure excellent library 
information and knowledge services throughout the county.
Salary range: $43,750 - $58,250. Requirements include MLS from an 
accredited program and/or certification by the Washington State Board of 
Certification Librarians. At least five years varied and progressively 
responsible public library management experience, including at least 
three years in a mid to upper management or supervisory position. 
Demonstrated competence in long-range planning, collection development, 
automation, management, budget preparation and administration. Other 
requirements include ability to select and supervise staff, build 
strategic community partnerships, as well as excellent verbal and
