Job Opening Announcement
Position Title: AUTOMATED SYSTEM MANAGER
The Fort Vancouver Regional Library seeks a knowledgeable and
enthusiastic manager for its automated systems. Located on the Columbia
River in Vancouver, Washington, the Fort Vancouver Regional library
serves over 350,000 people in three counties covering 4200 square miles,
from 11 branches and 3 bookmobiles. The Library also provides automated
services to 3 contract libraries. Automated systems include the Dynix
integrated library system, a variety of remote databases, World Wide Web
access, CD ROM databases and use of both WLN and OCLC. Fort Vancouver
Regional Library branches and contract libraries are connected by a
Frame Relay wide area network. Duties include management of those
systems, the Computer Room staff, automation vendor liaison and contract
management, and participation in overall technology planning. The most
desirable candidates will possess an MLS from an ALA accredited school,
at least 5 years of library related experience, of which 3 years must be
in a library-automation environment, preferably Dynix, and strong
working knowledge in at least two of the following areas: Unix, World
Wide Web programming languages, Local Area Networks, and
telecommunications protocols/router configuration. Salary range
$3708-4631/month (1998), excellent employer provided benefits. Position
