BC Library Association Launches Revamped Website

The British Columbia Library Association (BCLA) has launched its redesigned website. The new site, a culmination of several months' work, can be found at www.bcla.bc.ca.

"One of the priorities of the 1999-2000 Board of Directors was to ensure that the BCLA website continued to meet the varied needs of our members," said BCLA president Sybil Harrison. "Board member John Durno was appointed specifically to take on the task of updating the website, and we are grateful for his efforts."

Another key aspect of the new design was the change to a new domain name. The new domain, www.bcla.bc.ca, is an indication of the increased importance that the association is placing on its website, Harrison said. "Along with the BCLA Reporter, it is our most important link to our membership."

According to Durno, "the redesigned website allows for more direct control by BCLA Sections, Interest Groups and Committees over the content in their portion of the site. Key elements of the site, such as the job page and the events page, will not be affected. At the same time, the changes will ensure that information on the website is current and that the BCLA office can play a stronger role in maintaining the site."

Work on the website began in summer 1999. BCLA, through the Youth@BC program, was able to secure a summer website assistant position to begin the work. In conjunction with John Durno, the assistant worked through the site, redesigning and updating it as necessary.

The BCLA office also has changed its email address. The office can now be contacted at office@bcla.bc.ca.
