PNLA Quarterly, Vol. 63 No.2 Winter 1999
2nd V.P. Annual Report
Barry Brown, Outgoing PNLA 2nd V.P.
The good news is that membership in PNLA for 1997-1998 increased (with a total of 528 members; 31 more than the year before). This reverses the downward membership spiral of the last 6 consecutive years. Lets hope (and act to insure) that this trend continues!
A Directory of the PNLA Membership was produced this last winter that included, for the first time ever, the email addresses, work phone and fax numbers of members.
Interest Groups remain problematic in their activities (or lack thereof) and function within the association. We need a better way to get "birds of a feather" together at the annual conference for discussion and socializing, and to insure that conference programs represent member interests.
The incoming 2nd V.P. is Christine Sheppard, Executive Director, Library Association of Alberta. Christine will have the task of transferring the membership data from the DOS Based - Nutshell database program that I inherited and continued to use (on a 286 laptop computer that I scrounged up at work!) to a more current program and platform. Christine is potentially the last 2nd V.P. of PNLA since the new action plan transfers the duties of the 2nd V.P. to the secretary in two years. I wish her well in her new role and will work with her during this transition.
