Highlights of February Board Meeting

Submitted by Karen Labuik

The PNLA Board met at the Dumas Center in Federal Way, February 25 to 27. The Board has been meeting here for six or seven years — it's inexpensive, everything we need is on-site, and the only distraction is the view.

All of the committees submitted reports on recent activities, and their plans for meeting at the May conference. In addition to the revision of membership dues, the Board also discussed the possibility of reciprocal memberships with state and provincial associations within the Pacific Northwest and of accepting credit-card payments for membership dues. Decisions on both matters are pending.

One free PNLA membership will be drawn for at each state and provincial conference. People who are already members of a state or provincial association, and who are joining PNLA for the first time, may join for $35, paid in the currency of their country of residence. This is a "Try PNLA, you'll like it" offer that won't last forever.

The Hawaii Library Association will soon be deciding the level of its participation in PNLA's 2001 conference in Corvallis, Oregon. The working title of this conference is "Libraries on the Pacific Rim." The Board also decided that joint conferences in the spring are logistically a nightmare (too many conferences, not enough weekends) and is looking at other options for 2002.
